Modernization of road weather stations and addition of traffic counters on D1

  • Addition and modernization of weather stations
  • Installation of the latest modern sensors
  • Extension of the number of traffic counters

The busiest Czech motorway in the section from km 20 to 180 has undergone extensive modernisation in recent years. The comprehensive solution also included the addition of new road weather stations and the renewal of all existing road weather stations that had been installed on D1 in the past. The stations were fitted with the latest sensors that monitor road temperature and condition, air temperature and humidity, intensity and type of precipitation, wind direction and speed, and visibility. Together with surveillance cameras, the weather stations are used to monitor road conditions. The collected and processed data is used by the Roads and Motorways Directorate for efficient winter road maintenance or for early warning of drivers by means of messages on variable message signs. We have also expanded the number of traffic counters on D1. CrossCount counters located in selected emergency boxes process traffic data via inductive loops. The traffic volume information obtained in this way is used by the Czech Road Directorate for statistical purposes.
